2nd ENEN Special Event and 8th ENEN GA meeting in Ljubljana, 5-6 March 2010

Following the 13th Board meeting and a press briefing, the 2nd ENEN Special Event and the 8th General Assembly meeting took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 5-6 March 2010, co-hosted by University of Ljubljana and Jožef Stefan Institute. 50 persons from 43 organisations, including the European Commission and the International Atomic Energy Agency, participated in.

The 2nd ENEN Special Event, titled "Needs and strategies on Education and Training for increasing Nuclear Power Production", has the objectives:

- to report on the national E&T needs and strategies in the countries who decided to step in or to increase their nuclear power production

- to analyse the current situation and exchange views on collaboration with the End-users

- to discuss the development of a European framework for mutual recognition in nuclear E&T, such as a "European passport of competences" for Training

- to identify actions to be taken.

Five presentations were given by International Atomic Energy Agency, European Commission (EC), EC Joint Research Centre, ENEL, and Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration at the Session 1.

At the 8th General Assembly meeting, the ENEN welcomed new members from Greece, Belgium and Romania. It was also decided to conclude a MoU for cooperation with Central Institute for Continuing Education and Training (CICET) in Russian Federation, Kharkiv "Karazin" National University (KKNU) in Ukraine, and University Network of Excellence in Nuclear Engineering (UNENE) in Canada. The new Board members, President and Vice President were appointed.

The development of the new ENEN Database was reported and the further development of the European Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering (EMSNE) was discussed. All projects under the European Commission, such as ENEN III, ENETRAP II, PETRUS II, TRASNUSAFE, ENEN-RU and EUJEP, were introduced to the ENEN Members and discussed the future direction and strategies of the Association. Base on the discussions, the Action List for 2010-2011  was agreed and a series of Working Groups were established accordingly.
