Title : PhD position in experimental nuclear physics 2
Country : France
Organisation : UU
Topic details
The nuclear reactions group http://www.physics.uu.se/tk/en/content/nuclear-reaction-research-group is looking for a PhD student within the research field of nuclear data, especially neutron-induced nuclear reactions. The group is part of the division of applied nuclear physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy. We are currently starting up a new measurement campaign on neutron-induced light-ion production and neutron-induced fission at the Neutrons For Science (NFS) facility. NFS is currently under construction as part of Spiral2 at GANIL in France (http://www.ganil-spiral2.eu/) and is expected to be operational by spring 2013.
The PhD student will participate in planning and performing measurement campaigns at NFS. An existing detector setup will be upgraded, installed and tested on site. The setup will then be used for studies of light-ion production (protons, deuterons, and alpha particles), as well as precision measurements of fission cross sections and angular distributions of fission fragments. The measured data will be used for improving nuclear model codes.
The work will be conducted from Sweden with multiple travels to GANIL in Caen, France. The candidate will be involved in practical work in the laboratory, perform data analysis and computer simulations, and participate in model development.
We are searching for an excellent, highly motivated candidate with good knowledge of nuclear physics. The candidate should have a keen interest in the development of innovative experimental methods and data analysis tools.
